| The Cayuse obtained horses early and were a semi-sedenatry hunter/gatherer tribe. They were located in Oregon, with their range to the head of the Wallawalla, Umatilla, and Grande Ronde Rivers. |
| They were first friendly to the White settlers, but later started what became the Cayuse War over blame for measles. Some later confederated into the Nez Perce, though most settled on the Umatilla Reservation. |
